After a long 4-month hall, China Daily is redesigned and running in its new format. The redesign has been covered in foreign press and Chinese media outlets across the country, both good and bad reviews.

How did I do it? Well, three answers - sugar, caffein and the help of Bill Gaspard.

And now that its over, 20+ hour work days have turned into 12 hour work days, weekends now have the possibility of happening, and I now have time to play with macro lenses and create metaphorical images representing the effort it took to change the People's Republic of China's National English Language Newspaper from what it was, to what it is. That's me there hanging on to the spoon full of sugar, attempting to stay awake and hang on.

This picture of a spoon full of sugar is taken with a Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro lens. I got the lens about 7 months ago but haven't had time to use it much. Although I ignored the advice of others, I now would really agree, this is not a beginners lens. I have no macro flash or tripod slider rail, which makes it very hard to use, but in general, this lens has showed me a larger learning curve than any other I have ever used.

Back to the metaphor ...

I just spent 4 months redesigning this publication. Blogging activity came to a low, time to take field assignments has been completely gone for about 2 months, and free time has been non-existent. It still looks like another rough month before the newly created design team is up to speed where I don't have to be there 6-days a week, 12 hours a day - but hey, that's an improvement. On the back end of the new design, I created a central design desk for China Daily which now handles the design of all pages. In the past most pages were designed by editors.

Now that this is over, I'm back to finishing my new Web site and new blog which are (really) close to launching.

Unfortunately, most of the coverage of the design is in Chinese, but here's some English clips from coverage:

So - switching gears now to finish the new Web site. When the site and the new blog launch, I'll share some of my favorite pages of the new design.

BIG CHANGES COMING to Kessel Imaging.com and Jonah Kessel.com

You may have noticed a lack of posts the past couple of months. I am currently in redesign craziness with many projects. I am currently redesigning my commercial site, and this blog.

I've looked through hundreds of photographer's Web sites the past couple weeks, trying to find the best elements and most common problems.
